Ecthelion was born to a Telerin minstrel and a Noldorin craftsman shortly after the Swan Havens were completed. He spent his early childhood in the Halls of Olwë, and was taught all forms of music and song. While he was still young, his father desired to return to his own people, and the family relocated to Tirion.
In the city of the Noldor Ecthelion studied stonecraft, but his love of the shores and the sound of water was not easily forsaken; thus, he turned his knowledge to building fountains. Though for love of Eärwen his parents' allegiance was to the House of Finarfin, when Ecthelion reached his majority he swore fealty to Turgon, which led to his separation from his family at the flight of the Noldor.
In appearance Ecthelion favours his Noldorin heritage, with dark hair and a lithe, strong build. His eyes are a very pale bluish-grey. Because of his love of water, he is drawn to all materials of clarity and brilliance, particularly silver and diamonds, which are the emblems of his House. Despite his easy, flirtatious manner, Ecthelion wields both the longsword and spear with a fierce accuracy that earned him the rank of lord and captain.
Ecthelion leads the House of the Fountain.
